Bullitt brunch

Bullitt brunch is served at one of our favorite bars, right in the middle of Polk in Russian Hill. If you haven’t already, give our review of their Wing Wednesday a read (or just go try the wings; they’re great). It’s a medium-sized space with a long bar and high tables alongside the wall opposite it. It’s also got one relatively large table, but generally I’d say you’re better off here with a small group just because of the setup. There are plenty of TVs, so this is a great place to catch brunch and some Saturday or Sunday morning football.

The Bottomless

They keep it simple here – just good old fashioned bottomless mimosas for $20. No carafes, but the place wasn’t very crowded when we got there and the service was good, so no complaints about speed. The mimosas came in mason jars (the preferred glassware of basic people) and were well made, with mostly champagne and a little bit of orange juice.

The Food

As with some of our other favorite sports bars in SF, the food is too good to be described as “bar food.” It’s not a huge menu, but everything is well done. I tried the breakfast totchos (tater tot nachos, for the uninitiated), which were very simple but excellent – just cheese, guac, salsa, jalapenos and special sauce on top of tots. A friend and I also split the Wake and Bacon, their grilled cheese sandwich. That was, again, simple but delicious – egg, cheese, bacon on some nicely buttered toasted bread. It also came with tomato soup, which definitely tasted homemade; too creamy and flavorful to come out of a can. Last up was the breakfast burrito, which was my least favorite of the three dishes but still solid.

The Service

We were there on Saturday at about 12:30 and the place was maybe half full. Our waitress was pleasant and reasonably fast, and the mimosa refills generally came before anyone’s glass went empty.

Bullitt brunch has way better food than you’d expect at what is just a good, old-fashioned neighborhood sports bar. The only downside is it’s not the best place to accommodate huge groups, but if you’ve got a few friends who want to get some food and plenty of drinks while watching the game, this is a great place for that.
